That 50mm looks rad. A must buy for any K-1 shooter.

    • Lev

and why not for K3? 🙂

      • David de Bunker

        He didn’t exclude the K-3

  • LR

    Great !

  • JGoodard

Hurray! Really interested in that 11-18.

  • David de Bunker

    Pentax is not dead

    • Yep. There’s still life in the old dog, as they say. Depite all the FUD so readily distributed by so many, sometimes even Pentaxians themselves (the familiar Pentax-is-doomed theme). And I kinda like that, I must say. 🙂

  • fanboy fagz

theyre only making 5 of each, so all the 10 worldwide pentax users , please get together and draw a number from a hat to see who’ll buy them.
    haha JK

    theyre making 6

Funny. Now go stroll back to the Nikon forums you came from.

      • fanboy fagz

        Hahaha just a poke

  • David Philpott

Already figuring what sorts of things I have to sell in order to get the 11-18…

    • Kunzite

Things like kidneys and stuff? 😉

11-18/2.8 for crop looks suspiciously familiar (Tokina 11-20/2.8 anyone?), while that DFA 50/1.4 .. what should it be, in-house, own design? That would be awesome to see. Did they think to resurrect Super Takumar design and/or enhance it? Ricoh would not have a clue what Takumar is, but perhaps some of older Pentax engineers not forced into retirement might still remember …

    • David de Bunker

It is a modern 50. Big and cumbersome. Nothing like the Takumars which were compact. The FA 50.14 descends from that. It is very compact. 49mm filter and 220 grams. If you liked the Takumars get that one.

Love the pentax 50/1.8 and 1.4!!!!

    • Ricoh beginning to deliver on its K mount roadmaps – with two lenses bearing the auspicious ★ designation – doesn’t sound like bad news to me at all. Cooperation between Japanese photo companies has a long tradition, and as long as that leads to great product, while we get to see some in-house designs as well, I have no problem with that.

And even *if* the new 50 should turn out a bit too hypercorrected for its own good (trading in microcontrast, depth and colour rendition for nth-degree wide-open-corner-to-corner-resolution), it would generate sales and keep the measurebaters happy. But we don’t even know the specs yet, let alone have seen images shot with it, so there is still hope Ricoh has made it more than a lifeless Sigma Art Series clone.

As for the 11-18, I’m actually quite delighted to see its addition to the crop lens line-up. It underlines Ricoh’s commitment to its APS-C customers, and the limitation of the FL range while offering F2.8 throughout sounds promising indeed.

      What a load of nonsense.

There’s only a passing resemblance to the Tokina – and then, there’s different focal range. You need something more solid than that (at least, the basic optical design?)
There’s absolutely no reason to doubt that the D FA* 50mm f/1.4 (and the 85mm for that matter) is a Pentax/Ricoh design. Doing so is just trolling.

“Resurrecting” a hand computed lens from the ’60s makes no sense at all. And Pentax made tons of lenses since the Super Takumar… they’re not stuck in that era, nor do they have to “remember” how to make a lens.

      • ZMWT

Such slanders coming from you, I take them as a proof to my original rational thoughts.

        • Kunzite

Same for the sun rising every morning. The entire Universe is validating your “original rational thoughts”.
So you’ll be ignoring the arguments presented, as they contradict the Will of the Universe.

          • Kunzite

Somebody tell him Gandalf is a fictional character… oh, never mind, it’s pointless.

  • Luis Fonseca

    I hope that a DFA 24-105/4 won’t take long.

  • sickheadache

who made that 50mm for pentax. ??? Tamron?

    • Licheus

From the little information available I gather it’s the Sigma. Which would be excellent.
