PENTAX 17 – compact film camera with fixed focal length wins three of the most important internationally recognised design awards

Paris 28th April 2025 – The Ricoh Company, Ltd. and RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. are very proud to announce that, following the IF DESIGN AWARD 2025 and the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2025, they have now also received the internationally recognised and important red dot DESIGN AWARD 2025 for the PENTAX 

Red Dot Design Award

Jury statement: From the numerous entries submitted by companies and design studios from around the world, the outstanding quality and design of your product has convinced our international Red Dot jury!

With more than 18,000 submissions from designers, companies and organisations in over 70 nations, the Red Dot Award is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world. Participants can enter products, brands and communication projects as well as prototypes and design concepts in three categories. A jury convenes for each award every year to individually review the submissions and then decide on the winners.


iF DESIGN AWARD

A total of 10,651 products in 82 categories from 66 countries were submitted for this year’s judging. In the iF Final Jury, each submission was evaluated by a jury of three judges based on the following criteria: differentiation, form, function, idea, sustainability.

The Pentax 17 was able to convince in all categories and was awarded the iF DESIGN AWARD 2025.

Since 1954, the iF DESIGN AWARD has been a globally recognised mark of outstanding design achievements. The iF Design mark is internationally established as a symbol of outstanding design achievements. The iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most important design prizes in the world. It honours design achievements in all disciplines: product, packaging, communication and service design, architecture and interior design, as well as professional concepts, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI). German Design Award

Jury statement” “The newly developed analogue photo camera impresses with its intuitive user guidance, which makes it easier for both experienced photography enthusiasts and novices to get into analogue photography. The deliberate avoidance of digital distribution options promotes a personal, haptic experience and creates unique memories.”

The German Design Award is a prestigious international design prize established in 1953 by an initiative of the German Bundestag (the lower house of the German parliament).

Among the products with outstanding design worldwide, the products recommended by the German Design Council are nominated for the award, which is divided into four levels: first gold, second winner, third special mention and fourth nomination. Gold, winner and special mention are prizes awarded to outstanding designs among the nominees.
